Taster Sessions

We belIeve that access to tuition and time to practice on the wheel are two of the most important things when learning to throw.

Parkwood Throwing Courses was established in February 2017. Here's more about our courses -

  • our 8 Week Evening Courses and Weekend Courses are suitable for both complete beginners and for those who want to develop existing skills at an intermediate level. Having two tutors and small class sizes means the course can be tailored to suit individuals, even within a group setting.

  • for beginners, they're designed to teach and develop basic throwing skills

  • for those at an intermediate level, we will help you to develop your existing throwing skills and to refine your existing technique by looking at skills such as repeat throwing and throwing taller or wider vessels

  • our studio is a working pottery and is light, spacious and well-equipped

  • no previous experience is necessary for any of our courses

  • small class sizes (a maximum of 6)

  • a wheel to yourself throughout the course

  • all our courses are taught by two tutors, Graeme McKenna and Inga Heppleston, who are both experienced in throwing and in teaching others to throw - they are also makers at Parkwood Pottery

  • includes all clay and use of materials and equipment

  • the aim of all our courses is to develop throwing skills, rather than to make lots of pots to take home - however, limited firing and glazing is included as outlined below

  • on both 8 Week Evening Courses and Weekend Courses, you can choose up to 6 of your pieces to be fired and glazed in a clear or white glaze

  • on Taster Sessions, you can choose up to 2 of your pieces to be fired and glazed in a clear or white glaze

  • we provide everything you need on your course, including throwing aprons

  • refreshments included each session - unlimited drinks and and something nice to eat

  • a home-made lunch is also included on our Weekend Courses

  • when possible, we also offer one hour of untutored practice time before each session on our Evening Courses, at no extra cost

  • we are happy to accept group bookings when possible

  • GIFT CARDS All our courses can be purchased as a gift - to ensure availability we are unable to offer 'open' Gift Cards, so a specific course date must be chosen at the time of purchase
